MEMBER CARD® Debit Card with Interac Flash®

It's easy as 1, 2, 3.

Interac Flash® is the contactless feature of our debit card, that lets you securely and conveniently pay for smaller purchases.  Simply hold the card in front of the reader and wait for the approved message or listen for the BEEP. Contactless is also referred to as "tap".

Before you use Flash, you'll need to activate it:

  1. ACTIVATE: Use your card to make a purchase by inserting it into a card reader and entering your PIN. This activates Interac Flash.
  2. TAP: When you make your next purchase, hold your card to the reader or tap it, and listen for the BEEP.
  3. BOOM: Your purchase is now approved.

Specific limits safeguard your money in case of theft or fraud:

  • $100 single transaction tap limit
    • Single transactions have a limit of $100 or under. If your transaction is over $100, you will be prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN.
  • $200 cumulative total
    • There is a cumulative spending limit, which means the most you can spend using Flash in consecutive transactions is $200. Once you have reached the $200 limit, you'll be prompted to insert your card and enter your PIN.  This action resets the $200 limit and you can begin using Flash again for another $200.

Effective December 1st, you can increase your Kootenay Savings flash debit card tap limits!

  • $250 single transaction tap limit
  • $400 cumulative total
Here’s how:

  1. Complete three transactions in row using the PIN insert method.
    • This can be done at any merchant that accepts debit cards or at the ATM (withdrawal, deposit or balance check).
  2. After the third consecutive PIN transaction your new limits will be applied and available to you.
  3. Tap away!
Why increase your tap limits?

Reduce the number of times you need to touch a point of sale terminal
Contactless payments are more secure – fraudsters can’t get the information they need to make fake cards

As a Kootenay Savings member, you're also protected by Interac's Zero Liability Policy if your card is lost or stolen. You must contact us right away to let us know.

Protect your card

Keep your card in a safe place and never lend it to anyone.  Always protect your PIN – it is your electronic signature.  When selecting your PIN, avoid the obvious.  Don’t use your name, telephone number or date of birth.  Don’t write it down – memorize it and never disclose it to anyone.  When entering your PIN, use your hand or body as a shield to ensure privacy.

Know your limits

Personal daily limits apply to your MEMBER CARD Debit Card cash withdrawals or point-of-sale purchases.

If you need your limit increased, please call our Member Service Centre at 1.800.665.5728 to see if you qualify.
